Amy Berriman

What inspired you to want to become a designer?
When I was 15, I was studying art and graphics in secondary school and I was given work experience with a company doing graphics for them. It was only for a week, but in that week I knew it was what i wanted to do when i was older.
Who is your favourite designer/design agency?
I would probably say Alexy Brodovitch for his great art direction that involved both photography and type arrangement. I especially like the double page spreads that he created, where the text relates and complements the imagery.

What influences you creatively other than graphic design?
I really like animation and multi-media design, i like the work created via stop motion. such as the video below.
Bubblicious by Rex The Dog, directed by Geoffroy De Crecy, production company: Partizan
What is your favourite piece of design?
At the moment I am fascinated and amazed at the the work I saw for Mini Cooper. They are using a technique called Augmented Reality. Whilst on a Mini Cooper website, you hold a Mini press ad in front of your webcam and you see a 3D car on your page on the screen. This design technique is definitely something for the future.
What qualities do you think you will bring to the project?
I think that i will bring enthusiasm and my own interpretation on design ideas. I feel i bring another aspect of design into the group with my knowledge on animation, using the After Effects program. I am able to work well in a group and I can communicate well with others to help find a solution.
Where do you see yourself in ten years time?
I hope to be working as a graphic designer solving the problems I have been asked to solve, while creating successful and intelligent design. Whether I am working with a company or as a freelancer I would love to one day progress enough to run and own a design company myself.
What do you hope to get out of the project?
I hope to learn and experience how a graphic design company functions, about their design processes and how they handle and manage their work. I hope that all the information that I acquire will help me with finding a job at the end of my course and aid me to where I want to be in the future.
Tell us a random fact about yourself...
I was born in Australia and lived there till I was six. I also nearly traveled the world as a trapeze artist, but my mother wouldn’t let me go.
